It may be the convenience and satisfaction of finding clothing that would “go perfectly with so much in my closet”, because, frankly, who wants to buy a piece of clothing you can’t wear with anything you have? Versatility is key, but it can also be limiting. I’ll make it work somehow, though.

My raccoon-print Keds flats still make me smile, I love my Christopher Kane for Topshop crocodile dress (ubiquitous as it is), and, thanks in part to Ann Demeulmeester, I’m now on a bird-print kick. So I’m really, really, REALLY liking the swallow print in Miuccia Prada’s spring Miu Miu collection, especially on the shoes. Swallows are some of my favorite birds, and they do make a great print. I’m wary of silk-covered shoes (I have a pair of silk Balenciaga sandals), because, man, are they easily dirtied, but I think I’d be willing to risk it for these amazingly chunky shoes. My spring shoe wish list is starting to take shape, and a pair of these Miu Miu’s is definitely high up.

In true spoiled, materialistic spirit, one minute, we’re all freaking out about the new Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony buckled wedges, the next minute, we’re onto our next fix (the Acne Atacoma). I realize that yes, sometimes, that amazing dress or top or shoes that you absolutely MUST HAVE, isn’t really that, and, a year later, you look back and say, “Ok, so I’m not so bad off without those snakeskin Prada heels.” But sometimes, sometimes things haunt your dreams, and, as time passes, you only want that pair of Jil Sanders or what have you more and more. That’s how I feel about these Stella McCartney wedge ankle boots from last fall. When I saw them, I nearly went into convulsions, they were so beautiful. That METAL PLATE!!! It was absolutely, positively, glorious. I loved everything about them, the gigantic platform, the heavy wood, the curved back of the heel, the pointiness, those METAL PLATES. Even Kate Lanphear couldn’t stop wearing them! Every time I looked at them, I felt like a choir of angels was singing in the background. But I never got a hold of them, and now, they’re oh-so-two-seasons-ago (4 if you count resort and pre-fall). It’s funny how obsessed we all become with the newest It shoe or dress, but a couple months later, and we have new shiny things to covet, and those “must haves” become soooo two months ago (or we see them everywhere so much that we get sick of them). But the more time goes by, the more I love those Stella McCartneys, and the more I wish I could’ve gotten my grubby little paws on them. I’ve combed the internet, Yoox, Ebay, searching for that clunky wooden goodness. And I will forever be on the search for those amazing boots (in a size 35.5-37). This is one pair of shoes that I will never tire of. Never.

I keep telling myself that I just can’t buy any more shoes right now, I JUST CAN’T, and then along come Acne’s Atacoma wedges making me fall in love and yearn endlessly for these beauties. They’re simple, but that’s what makes them so amazing. That, and the fact that they are gigantic wedges balanced on a silver platform. A mirror-shiny silver platform, which I sooo long to have on my feet. I’m always a fan of some contrast, and the idea of little me teetering around in these giant wedges is absolutely salivating. It’s hard for me to resist a “stomp-y” shoe, and these wedges definitely go in the stomp-y category. The reasonable side of me is yelling that I can’t afford another pair of shoes at the moment, and if I’m going to buy anything, the shoes should be so incredibly special and beautiful that they transcend space and time. It tells me that I do not need these shoes, they’re not even “beautiful” really, they’re sort of just…simple. But the greedy side of me loves them for exactly that reason, especially since I’m on somewhat of a “simple” kick. It tells me that they will look so good with all of Rad Hourani’s newest collection, it screams “WANT, WANT, NEEEED” at me. Look at them, they’re perfect to go stomping around in for fall, they’re just subtle enough to be casual, and just special enough to be completely covetable. Sometimes, my fashion desires don’t make very much sense (do the things I want ever make sense? I’m sort of doubtful).

*edit: they’ve only been out for a couple days, but it appears as if the black/silver version is sold out on the acne site. *cries*

Forgive the Jak & Jil image overdose today (though an overdose of Tommy Ton’s photography seems nearly impossible), but I just had to post about one of my favorite designers in the whole world, Rad Hourani’s upcoming new collection, Rad by Rad Hourani. Call it a diffusion line if you must, I just call it drool-worthy. This is a collection that makes me think I could go at least an entire season without wearing a snip of color, and still be perfectly happy. The collection consists of 15 looks, all in the $100-400 range, and, as you can see, combines whites, greys, and blacks in Rad’s signature androgynous style. I remember, once upon a time, I couldn’t find Rad Hourani’s clothes ANYWHERE (not that they’re easy to find now), and I finally saw them in real life in Holt Renfrew in Montreal, and I couldn’t stop touching them. I just stood there, drooling. Yes, it was sort of embarrassing, especially since he wasn’t as well-known or lauded back then. I remember seeing a video of his very first runway show and thinking, “He’s going to be famous. Soon, everyone will be as obsessed as me.”

Anyway, enough reminiscing, back to the collection at hand. He took his amazing slashed leather pants and transformed them into a nice, slashed pair of white jeans (I still prefer the hardcore version, even if it’s “harder” to wear in real life. And yes, nearly year later and I’m still wanting them.), and fashioned some really nice jackets and shorts. It may not be “trendy” or even “groundbreaking”, but it fits his consistent style, and I want all of it. ALL OF IT. The jackets are actually the exact shape I’ve been craving, except not in leather, but I think I’m willing to compromise. Heh. Everything is amazing, and is just waiting to be worn in a million different iterations. Msr. Hourani is one of those designers who refuses to change his style every season to fit the “trends”, and when he likes an idea, really sticks with it, which I really admire. There are so many times I love aspects of a piece or collection of clothing for longer than a season, so it’s nice to see designers who don’t feel the need to reinvent themselves constantly. I really, really hope I’ll be able to see these pieces in real life soon.
