Somehow, when I think about Alexander Wang, I keep thinking that he’s the next Marc Jacobs. He keeps changing and growing, but he always manages to maintain his core identity. He never stops pushing himself to try new ideas, but he knows not to abandon what works. Just when I was getting really tired of the downtown, model-off-duty look, he crafted a sporty, light collection, as if he could tell what I’ve been thinking and loving. He showed the shorter in front, longer in back silhouette I can’t stop loving, and did a lot of great shoulder shapes (I’m in LOVE with that belted cape look). He could have easily stuck to his very successful Wangster formula, and everyone would have raved and bought it in a heartbeat, but I think it’s even better that he took a different direction. That kind of instinct for style is what makes a great designer. And now I wish I’d found that aviator cap I was pining for so much in the spring. I’ll find the perfect one yet.
