I Can’t Take It

Of all my friends, I think I agree most with Rick’s style. On the surface, his style seems nothing like mine, but he has the best grasp of subtle dressing of any of my friends (probably including me), and I very much appreciate some of his sartorial habits, like his love of wearing a simple white t shirt and jeans, his love of hoodies (which I also wear a lot of when it’s cold, and I steal his, too), his new found appreciation for Comme des Garcons, his fondness for charcoal grey (my favorite color, if I had to pick one), and especially his willingness to stay up all night with me so we can drive to the Barney’s warehouse sale at 6 in the morning. So dressing like him has probably been easiest, and most satisfying. The elements I tried to incorporate into my outfit were:
1) the white t shirt, which Rick loves above anything.
2) jeans with the waistband folded down once (“belts are stupid”)
3) a headband, although Rick wears an Under Armour one, I’m in the process of making him a feathered one just like mine :)
4) charcoal grey, in the form of a bit of trim on my headband
5) his signature dogtags

I rather like these jeans. I stole them from my dad, whose denim collection is rather enviable. Some people wear their boyfriends’ jeans, I steal my dad’s. Hm, you know what’s funny? Every piece of clothing I’m wearing (minus the shoes) is menswear. Yesssss.

Oh, and completely unrelated, but I made the bracelet I’m wearing this morning. Back in high school, I would sometimes wake up with no jewelry to wear, and would quickly make something that would go with my outfit as I ran out the door, and this morning I woke up with that same nagging urge to make some jewelry. So I did. It’s not perfect, but I’m working on it, and it’s not too bad, considering I made it before 10 am. There’s more where that came from, I’m sure.

Soundtrack of the day: I Can’t Take It by Tegan and Sara

Wearing: Uniqlo men’s t shirt, William Rast jeans (borrowed from dad), dogtags (borrowed from brother), handmade feather headband, nude Christian Louboutin shoes, handmade silver bracelet

Now it’s off to eat a peach (do I dare to eat a peach?…I am wearing my trousers rolled…sorry, I couldn’t help it) and finish reading The Architecture of Happiness. I really have been reading a lot this summer, it’s great.
Hugs,
Lauren
